Sandvik Mining & Rock Solutions (SMR) is a leading supplier in equipment and tools, services and technical solutions for the mining and construction industries. Our application areas include rock drilling, rock cutting, crushing and screening, loading and hauling, tunneling, quarrying and breaking and demolition. To our manufacturing sites at Pune and Hyderabad, Bangalore Design Center and common functions, we are now looking for a Head – Indirect Purchase based at Pune to join us.
Your scope:
To manage and execute indirect purchase and sourcing activities for meeting internal customer needs within timeline.
To be more specific, your main responsibilities to handle in this position are:
- Profound Capability of Formulating and implementing procurement strategy for all Indirect Categories – e.g. REFM, Energy, IT, Professional Services, Logistics, Production Equipments, Packing, HR etc. – in form of Product or Service Contracts including performance measurement matrix and dispute resolution and establishing methods to achieve project / category targets
- Robust exposure / knowhow of legal framework for industry/sector best EHS and purchasing compliance norms including it’s integration with non-commercial (e.g. Scope / Performance expectations) & Commercial elements of legal contracts. Must be able to connect with Global HQ and Local Compliance Officers, in order to resolve and drive EHS compliant procurement including setting up KPIs for team & vendors, integrating dispute resolution mechanism
- Must have ability to lead within Business Project Team for Infrastructure development projects -e.g. green field / brown filed project’s - procurements related actions / strategies and actively participating in various sourcing strategies including establishing contractual & performance framework for Capex & Service contracts -e.g. various AMCs
- Must have detailed exposure to Procurement Module elements in ERPs -e.g. SAP, Oracle, NAVISION etc. including functional need assessment, managing system shortfalls & use ERP Business best practices for optimum purchasing performance including all MIS associated with it.
- Must have excellent ability of Planning, organizing, and controlling all requisite activities to perform P2P ( Purchase to Pay for best cost purchasing ) - such as sourcing, techno - commercial evaluation, negotiation, recommendation, ordering, inspection, expediting & tracking, reporting, logistics and delivery and payment processing effectively – for various business entities including co-ordination and multi-location team guidance of various stakeholders through planned CTC ( Close to Customer ) meetings. Exposure to import/export procedures is an added advantage.
- Developing & implementing functional MIS in line global HQ and country business expectations – inside & outside ERP - as per business need, tracking, reporting, managing performance gaps.
- Establish, monitor and provide leadership to functional & business team for various external & internal AUDITS., govt. & semi-govt. bodies etc. Must be able to support business in implementing audit recommended process improvement actions & integrating it with purchasing for optimal performance.
- Good to have sector specific exposure of various procurement practices from suppliers and competitors and should be able to sync with global inputs for implementing best practices for sandvik within the framework of Sandvik Policies – Code of Conduct, DPA (data privacy), NDA, Safety manuals etc.
- Must have ability lead the team in training various purchasing related disciplines and zeal for updating skill-inventory on relevant topics
Your profile:
Our candidate should have hands on purchasing and sourcing activities with at least 25 years’ relevant experience including 10 to 15 years managing team and have substantial multi-stakeholder & multi-site management experience along with own team members.
A graduate mechanical engineer with MBA finance or similar exposure or any other equivalent graduation supported by procurement related certification is required. You have previously worked with strong EHS cultured organizations as well as adequate exposure to mining sector and you understand the importance of a diverse workforce and collaborative settings.

- Excellent knowledge in EHS legal & compliance framework guidelines,
- Analytical Mind
- Expert in MS Office Software usage
- Excellent understanding in MIS reporting related to purchasing.
- AURORA / SAP / Other ERP Experience highly preferred
- Ability to handle all types of AUDITs independently.
